Hello there!😸 I'm Tygersnark, solo developer at Twin Tail Digital, and this is me making my first devlog post announcing my first game!😻

HANGAR 8

History of Twin Tail Digital

I have been trying to become a game developer basically my entire life. I started playing the SNES, then went onto PS1, then 2, and then I got a gaming computer and PC has been where it's at ever since. Thus, from a young age games have been a huge part of my life. The first time I ever dabbled in some sort of coding was when I taught myself HTML to make a more attractive shop and collection page on Neopets of all things! My step-father at the time also gave me a set of floppy discs containing .NET tutorials, and while the family was enjoying a beachfront holiday, I was sitting at a table making myself a game that was a sort of tic-tac-toe you could play by yourself.... it was horrible 🙀I also went to college for Computer Science where they taught me some more .NET, but the South African education system at the time was not equipped for Game Development and it didn't help me to achieve my dream. To do that I would have to do what I did with HTML and Graphic Design, and teach myself!

After a decade of being a professional Designer working on everything from Web & Graphic Design, to Video Editing and Print Design, I have finally made real steps toward making a life-long dream come true and becoming a Game Designer and Developer! That's not to say I haven't tried to make games before, but they were all too ambitious and I often hit a brick wall and bounced off. However, I would always be thinking of new game ideas.

One evening while watching a Twitch stream of Insym playing some kind of "The Exit 8" inspired game, I got fed up with always seeing asset flips getting so much attention and praise that I just felt I could do better - or at the very least, match the quality! Now you may have read that sentence and thought I look down on those games, but I do still respect that they had released at least some sort of game. Now it was my turn!

I also chose to make a game inspired by "The Exit 8" when Insym made a comment that it would be one of the easier games to make (a game like "I'm On Observation Duty" maybe being a little easier.), and I agreed. I am a huge Science Fiction fan, so I decided to make my game based on a space station and you had to escape it. On ‎Wednesday, ‎20 ‎March ‎2024, ‏at ‎08:58:54 my local time, I started up GODOT and got to work creating HANGAR 8.

The Future of Twin Tail Digital

I am still working full-time at a non-developer job, but I am pouring as much time as I can into getting this game released on time! It is currently in a fully playable state, but there are many bugs and I want to make accessibility and quality of life improvements before I ask people to pay for it. I am not 100% how much I will get done, but the game will be releasing in September!

After release, I will continue to make updates to the game, which will hopefully make enough income for me to become a full-time Game Developer and make more games! I already have another horror game that is inspired by Phasmophobia that is in the early design stages, but I also plan to go outside of the horror genre at some point. 🐱
